Pre-Game
Bobby Hull, perhaps the greatest LW in hockey history visited with fans prior to the match. Amanda Virtue and Mercedes Faraoni got to meet the Golden Jet.
-
Freddie
If you play hockey in Aspen you probably know Freddan Ricard. He was the driving force in creating HOCKEY NIGHT in ASPEN and deserves "big up's for organizing the event. He's with Bobby Hull who tallied over 900 career goals in his Hall of Fame career in the NHL / WHA. Freddie,--- his stats are not as strong, we've heard he's lit the lamp a few times in the Aspen A League.
-
Put me in Coach
Dave Lewis played over 1000 games in the NHL. He won three Stanley Cups as an asst. coach with the Wings. He then stepped up to head coach, most recently with the Bruins. Lewie's a first class guy, eh?
-
Wind up
Reed Larson had the hardest shot in the NHL back in the day. The Minnesota native is one of the best U.S. born players in history. A former NHL All-Star, he's in the US Hockey Hall of Fame to prove it. His son Ian, 25, helped coach the Wings Alumni ( we're not allowed to use the term "old timers" ).
-
Wheels
Winger, Dougie Brown won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings. "He's still got the wheels" said Jeff White
-
Sin Bin
Dennis Hextall spent a fair amount of time in the penalty box during his 13 year NHL Career. Now playing for the the Red Wings Alumni at age 65, Hextall, is still more than willing to get chippy, if needed.
-
Fan Favorite
Shawn Burr, always a fan favorite during his 16 year NHL career, gave us his "get tough" stare prior to Hockey Night in Aspen.
-
Johnny O.
Red Wing alumni, John Ogrodnick is a member of the very exclusive club of 50 goal scorers. The veteran sniper scored 55 goals in the 84-85 NHL season. Johnny O. also had over 100 total points that year.
-
The Aspen Leafs
The Aspen Leafs had home ice advantage at 8000 ft. They were also, agile, mobile and hostile as they defeated the Wings Alumni 7-3.

Hockey MoM.

Go BIG!
Insurance magnate, Michael Sailor and his son Sivan went BIG for Hockey Night in Aspen.
-
Mites
In between periods, The Mites from Aspen Junior Hockey (age 7 and 8) faced off in a grudge match. The Mites were buzzing in the O-fensive zone.
-
More Mites
Aspen Junior Hockey. It's BIG fun for little kids.
-
Scotty do.
Scott March is a veteran ref in Aspen, and he was excited to meet Bobby Hull. He was so excited, that in the first 5 minutes of the game, Scotty called "the only hooking penalty ever called in the history of the Red Wings Alumni" according to one bench jockey.
-
No time to rest.
Even though the Wings "old-timers" were getting spanked on the ice, they graciously signed autographs in between periods.
-
Cup Winner
Mike Krushelnyski won three Stanley Cups as a player with the Edmonton Oilers and one as an asst. coach with the Wings. Here he is signing a kid's face to the dismay of the kid's Mom. Relax Mom, sharpies eventually fade.
-
Ink
Shawnie Burr adds his signature to the kid's face.
-
Rink Rats
Local icers, Dan Sartain, Geoff Lubin from RESORT QUEST along with Blake Owens. These guys always get plenty of ice time.
-
Wings / Avs.
Shawn Burr was extremely friendly, even to this young Avalanche fan. AspenSpin wonders "is it even a rivalry anymore?"
-
Friendly Rivals
The Wings were good sports despite getting thrashed by the Aspen Leafs.
-
Good Times
Once the final buzzer sounded, there was a lot of love shared on the ice.
-
The Golden jet
Leaf's super-star Jono McBride shared a few words with a hockey legend, Bobby Hull.
-
The Ring
Mike Krushenyski tried to butter up referee Scott March at the after-party. March won't be so quick to blow his whistle after trying on K's real live Stanley Cup ring.
-
Local Support
Local big wheels, Jeff Gorsuch and Lee Pardee made it to the after party @ Aspen's only hockey bar, Bruno's Pizza.
