Aspen Ideas Festival 2010

Can Aspen save the world?

The Aspen Ideas Festival (AIF)2010 is aiming to do just that.  The 6th annual AIF is taking place RIGHT NOW in our little mountain hamlet, Aspen, Colorado.  AIF describes itself as  "a conversation-packed exploration of some of the most important ideas and pressing issues we face" .  We being --mankind as a species and earth as a planet.  AIF 2010 is presented by The Aspen Institute and Atlantic Magazine.

Bill Clinton makes the scene in Aspen.AspenSpin is still on hiatus in California, so we are not actually attending this fantastic event, however we are covering it via the interwebs.  While we normally like to get the "inside information" and "super-sick photos" for all Aspen events, this time.... we are on the outside looking in.... its still fascinating none the less.  AIF brings together thought leaders from around the globe to chat, network and hopefully change the world.   Topics include World Affairs, Arts and Culture, The American Agenda, The environment and sustainability.   AIF networks a bunch of incredibly smart, well connected, affluent people.  Hopefully they will find the solution the the world's problems, and share it with the rest of us ASAP.

Aspen Basketball

Hooping at 8,000 feet makes you strong.

Aspen, Colorado is a hot-bed of hoops.  While most of the basketball world is focused on LeBron James' free agency (A-Spin predicts King James will stay in Cleveland), a group dedicated to the hardwood got busy in Aspen.....well.....Snowmass.

NBA and Denver Nuggets star Kenyon Martin held his HOOPS for KIDS All-Star Celebrity Basketball Camp at the Snowmass Recreation Center and Viceroy Snowmass. Kids ages 8-16 were given the opportunity to meet, greet, play b-ball and learn from NBA All-Stars. Hoops for Kids benefits both the Kenyon Martin Foundation and the Snowmass Recreation Center. K-Mart's foundation provides life-changing opportunities for underserved youth and families without a father figures.  By all measures Hoops for Kids was a tremendous success.  The most important metric was the smiles on the faces of all the young hoop players in Aspen who got to take it to the hole with the 6'9" power forward, Kenyon Martin.

Getting a run at 8000 ft. Hoops 4 Kids Big ups to AspenSpin's special correspondent , Coach K, Steve Ketchum who provided photos. Coach K is Head Coach of Aspen High School's State Runner up Basketball Team and Camp Director at Aspen Basketball Academy.  He participated in Hoops for Kids with his three sons and tons of other round ballers. Special thanks to Coach K for sharing his photos with us, and to Kenyon Martin for bringing his BIG TIME Basketball event to the Roaring Fork Valley.

Coach Ketchum with Basketball great Kiki VanderwegheKenyon Martin with Aspen basketball stars Lindsey Anderson & Matthew Holmes. Both plan to play college hoops next year.

Coach K. with his son Corey. Ketchum stepped up to the line in a pressure situation and swished 2 free throws in competition to win the shoe. Nothing but net in Aspen.

Hikers get lost on Ute Trail?
Two hikers got lost on the highly-traveled Ute Trail on Thursday, somehow managing to roam off the steep switchback single-track.

At about 8:45 a.m., the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the hikers. Mountain Rescue Aspen was called upon to find them. Seven MRA members responded and helped the hikers to safety.

The hikers had gotten into a steep area of loose rocks and could not go up the hill any farther. They called for help because they didn’t feel comfortable going down the hill. Rescuers found the hikers at about 10:45 a.m. The MRA members were able to move the lost hikers back onto the trail, and the parties walked down the trail and were back on Ute Avenue by noon.

Bikini Land

The Bombshell click for pixAspenSpin does not invent these events--- we just point and shoot 'em.  As always, our goal is to capture the energy, have some fun, network the room and translate the action digitally to your desk top.  So if this stuff is too sexy for you---or its sexist, or disrespectful to women in any way--- we apologize up front.  If 100's of scantily clad bikini models and wanna-be bikini models is offensive to you --- DO NOT CLICK

Bikini Land

Bikini Week San Diego is the dream child of San Diegans Michael Lee and Del Heles.  Its a week of parties, events and fashion shows to celebrate the world's sexiest swim ware--the Bikini.  You can see the entire itinerary by clicking Bikini Week.   The kickoff event was a bikini parade through downtown San Diego's Gaslamp district.  The parade attempted to set a new world record for bikini models.  Alas, no world record--but 300 bikini girls a'int bad.

If you can handle the heat, click BIKINI LAND
