Hockey Night in Aspen
The Aspen Leaf's Hockey Team peaked at just the right time to defeat the Red Wings Alumni 7-3 at the ARC. The younger, more acclimatized Aspen Leaf's were agile, mobile and hostile en route to a solid, well earned victory.

Hockey was just part of the STIRLING CUP ALL STAR WEEKEND which included a golf tournament and plenty of VIP parties. The Stirling Cup is named in memory of the late Stirling Cooper. Charitable proceeds from the weekend were donated to Aspen Junior Hockey, AVSC and Aspen United Soccer. The Red Wings Alumni team came into Aspen with a strong squad of former NHL greats. Reed Larson, Denis Hextall, John Ogrodnick, Shawn Burr and Doug Brown to name a few. They were matched against The Aspen Leaf's, a hand-picked group of All-Stars from Aspen's elite Men's Open Division.
The speed and skill was apparent on both sides of the red line. A sold out crowd at the ARC cheered on the action, along with all-time NHL great Bobby "The Golden Jet" Hull. Good sportsmanship was shown throughout the very competitive match. As the third period started, the Wings "old timers" seemed to be searching for another gear, but given the 8,000 ft. altitude, that higher gear never kicked in. The Leafs got two goals each from Matt Merritt and Yale Lewis along with stellar goal tending from Justin Biehl. "Number 33 stood on his head" complimented 3-time Stanley Cup Champion, Mike Krushelnyski.
The Stirling Cup All-Star Weekend is a great event and raised money for 3 worthy youth sports organizations..
