BrewCrew 09 RHL Champs. click to enlargeIce Hockey in Aspen is serious business.

The Aspen Brew Crew brought home their 4th straight Rec B Hockey League (RHL) Championship with a tense, hard fought 4-1 victory over chief rival, Team USA.  Da CREW, after getting smoked by USA in game 1 (of a best two out of three playoff format), showed their championship resolve by capturing the final two games in convincing fashion.

"Our goalie, Geoff Lubin stood on his head, he's the MVP" explained Crew Captain Ryan Johnson #18.  Lubin #1, who is a free agent next year, enjoyed the victory celebration to excess.  "Yup, they tested us, USA was strong,  but we've been there before---and it showed through", Lubin commented.

Party ON! click to enlarge.Exceptional goal tending and strong D was the Brew Daddy's signature all season.  Brian #20, Ryan#18 Richie P #48. Donny "4 for roughing" Buck #56 and key free-agent aquistion Hugh Burrows #37 formed a stalwart force along the blue line.  Timely scoring came from every angle. Wingers:  Rudy#31 Dan#24 Jason#22 Kate#69 Gerry#10 Kurt#99 and rookie sensation Blades Williamson#27 lit the lamp all season.  Center ice-men Andy-Party#9  and super-speedy rookie phenom Billy "big wave" Boyd#6 led a furious fore-check that resulted in many biscuits in the basket.  "It was a true team effort" explained classy veteran Richie "The Rocket" Pearlstone. General Manager Daniel Lauer gave a quick "no comment" about the status of next years roster.

In typical Brew Crew fashion, an impromptu, but raging celebration took place late into the night at Crystal Palace Grill.  Copious amounts of alcohol and prescription drugs were consumed @ CPG.  Chef Brad Smith assessed the damage; "when the Motrin (800mg) ran out, they finally got the heck outta here".   The Crew was not finished, however, as the after-party continued with a free Jes Grew poor people's show in Aspen.  Dehydrated, buzzed and still wearing his trade-mark breathe-right strip at 3am, Andy-Party spoke on behalf of the entire BREW CREW team-- (from the back seat of a police cruiser). "We skated, we sweated, we won, we partied our a$$es off", he drooled.

Ajax All Stars

Da Boyz @ Bonnie's. Best Breaky in Aspen, bring your appetite. It's well documented. The entire staff @ AspenSpin.com digs POW days more than bluebirds.

....but,  beautiful clear skies, warm temps & soft corn snow a'int too shabby.  We're still getting our ya ya's out on Ajax despite the mercury hitting 60 degrees.  You've gotta time it right, but skimming the slushy corn bumps on Corkscrew & Norway is pretty dang fun ----until later in the day-- when the Dumps start "going off".  We're still shredding the gnar--you should too.

Ruth & Marlene always smilin' @ Bonnie's on Ajax. Here's our Spring agenda.

1) Breakfast at Bonnie's--  simply the best.

2) Laps on Lift 1A, till the dumps corn up.

3) Apres like a MO-FO.

4) Hang w/ celebs & Beautiful People

5) Repeat

We had the pleasure to apres ski with future Baseball Hall of Famer, Jeff Bagwell, his wife Ericka and their crew at the base of Aspen Mountain.  Bagwell spent his entire 15 year career with the Houston, Astros.  He was NL Rookie of the Year, NL MVP and a 4 time All Star.  One of his newest ventures after baseball is Riazul Premium Tequila.  Try it,  its smoooooth.

Green Monster

In Aspen, every day is a Holiday.

St. Patrick's Day in Aspen is BIG fun, everybody's Irish in A-Town.  We always GO BIG, but on St. Paddy's we do go a little BIGGER, everyone in Aspen turns it up --just a notch.  No one was barfing green beer in the street like they do in NYC or passing out face down in the gutter, like they do in Chicago. Its just good clean Rocky Mountain fun.

Aspen has a really cool vibe for St. Paddy's.  The annual Shamrock Jam on Ajax attracted a who's who of A-list party people.  The host committee went all out to provide food and wine for the entire skiing population on Aspen Mountain. We followed that by attending St. Mary's Catholic Church, who hosts their family-style feast for St. Paddy.  Its a kid friendly extravaganza that honors the luck o' the Irish.  Everybody eats and drinks to their personal capacity.

March Madness

Hard Core Partying. click 4 pixMarch in Aspen is "showtime".  All the playas show up in March for their fun in the sun.  The average age of the town rises to "over 70", and the Cougars become even more predatory.  Celebs, parties, booze, chicks, beautiful weather---who could ask for anything more. Everyone @ A-Spin was workin' it hard this weekend.

See the pix: Working 4 the Weekend.

We ran into California Govenator Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was in Aspen for a $5000 a pop cocktail party/fundraiser and a couple of ski days.  We had a chance to snap a pic.--but he gave us the old  "I'll be back" routine, right before his security guys formed a human shield around him.   As they skied away he shouted "let's paaaarty".   A-rod was in town re-habbing his surgically repaired hip.  His rap--"no pix, please".  NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson and his racing buddies however were very cool. It was a busy weekend in party town. See the pix.
