Red Bull BMX shreds the Pontiac Silverdome

The Pontiac Silverdome...it never smelled like fresh paint.   The Lions stunk up the place. Asside from Barry Sanders I cannot remember any great football moments.   The Bad Boys, yeah they ruled the NBA back then.   It was never a good concert spot.   The Pontiac Silverdome was probably one of the most ill conceived stadiums ever built.

Red Bull Double Pipe: Feel the Hype in Aspen.

Red Bull and Snowpark Technologies built the largest half pipe of all-time in Aspen for Red Bull's Double Pipe snowboarding contest.   With a first prize of  $25,000, cash money, on the line the riders boosted the double pipe like they meant it.   The #doublepipe included two separate pipes connected by a 4 foot wide transition spine as well as several other features like rails and walls.  Riders took their time in practice trying to figure out the best way to send it on the Doublepipe.  Check the vid from Red Bull posted below to see the stats and get a feel for the #doublepipe

Taylor Gold bested a stacked field to win the gold (and the $25K) followed by Chase Josey and Arthur Longo.  See the entire comp. on NBC on April 12 th.

X Games Aspen: Party Down in A-Town

There are an unbelievable number of parties and special events for X Games Aspen. It's impossible to do them all...but Aspen is a Party Town and I am Andy Party. I tried.

I scored enough wrist bands to choke a dinosaur but still, I could not do it all.  I attended all the parties that I was actually invited to and I crashed the ones that I wasn't.  I tried to use everything to my advantage, including years of experience at X Games.   First of all... I'm old enough to be the father of the entire " X Games demographic".  Second of all,  I know where all Aspen's back doors are and I'm friendly with most of the security guards and bouncers.   All this came to a head during the perfect storm that is X Games weekend.  I discovered a new trick this year... it's all about progression and style.   Several times I was stopped at the door, my wrist inspected and my lack of proper credentials exposed...even before they could shoo me away...I smoothly shouted "my kid just won the Gold Medal"...it worked every time.

X Games After Midnight: Full Contact Partying

After Midnight at X Games in Aspen it's all about the wrist bands.  In addition to the actual X Games competition there is an enormous party scene. It's kind of like a mullet...all business up front...all party in the back.  High School and college students drive to Aspen from all over the Rocky Mountain region.  The VIP and Sponsor's events are littered with corporate executives, agents, managers as well as the friends and family of the Athletes.  If you have the right "hook ups" there's never a dull moment at X Games and it's always open bar and heavy apps.

After 7 years of snapping and rapping, AspenSpin has developed some good connections at X Games.   This year especially we need to throw out some SPECIAL THANKs.   To everyone who hooked me up...thank you, thank you, especially ESPN, RED BULL, MARLEY's MELLOW MOOD, FREESKIER and REPREVE.  Repreve is the official recycling partner of X Games and hooked me up with a satchel full of GREEN BEANIES made from re-cycled plastic bottles. We distributed the Green Beanies to those people who proved that they are recycling and protecting the environment.  If you scroll down to our previous posts from X Games you'll see some of the sick events we attended...Red Bull Media events & parties, the raucous Freeskier party, ESPN's Film / Style / Music programs etc etc.  But Saturday and Sunday nights got fully out of control.  It was full contact partying.

Unquestionably at  X Games Aspen 2013 the place to be late night was the MARLEY SAFE HOUSE. Live  music, entertainment, a young hot crowd who was ready to party and an open bar all housed at the former Crystal Palace.  Lines of 500 or more were turned away as the safe house filled to capacity around 11 PM.

On Saturday night the reggae superstar MATISYAHU free-styled in front of a packed house.  The Jewish reggae was flowing.  At around 3 am the VIP room opened.  It was mostly athletes and hot chicks plus 1 blogger. A. Party finally hit the rack at about 6 a.m.  On Sunday night KY-MANI MARLEY (son of Bob) and his band unleashed a reggae fire storm at The Marley Safe House.  He was joined by his son K.J. and others.  It was out of control.

Also Sunday RED BULL threw their X Games closing party with music from BUN B and DIPLO.  Yeah it was a HUGE deal.  The Ballroom at the Hotel Jerome was filled with Gold Medalists, team managers and friends of Red Bull...mostly hot chicks. 

So you get the picture. Party to Party...all night long.  Lets just say our wrist band quotient was high.
