Tuesday's with Ullr

UllrLast Tuesday we received over a foot of "da kine"in Aspen. Yesterday, despite the early morning report of 4", we're callin' it 10-12 inches of POWDER SNOW on Ajax. A few more ropes dropped and we got to stomp crotch deep pillow like freshies in the Dumps, Bell Mountain and Slalom Hill.

Its been cold, snowy and quite windy during this latest weather cycle. Ullr the ski god dropped 3 feet of snow on Aspen in the past week. Its all good because we've been garbed up in the finest stuff known to man.

First of all, layering is not a myth---it really works. ibex' all natural, merino wool long johns are our choice for next to skin comfort and warmth. ibex is the greatest.  As a mid-layer we're sold on Cloudveil's Run Don't Walk 1/2 zip. Hit the link, check it out, Cloudveil makes the best mid-layer stuff we've ever found. On the exterior we've been extremely impressed by the Kjus Formula Jacket and Pants. Kjus is not just stylish, it super-functional and toasty too.

When you're wearing the right stuff, there's no such thing as to much snow. Bring it  Ullr, we're dialed, styled and ready for action.

High Society

The snow continues to fall in Aspen.

Skiing all day and partying all night----somebody's got to do it.  AspenSpin was johnnie on the spot at two huge events last weekend.  In spite of the 24" pow storm that wailed into Aspen, the party did not stop.  Blizzard / Tecnica sprung for a rowdy après ski event after the 6 inch "warm-up" POW day on Sat.  The snow blew all night to the tune of 18" more inches on Sunday.  Inclement weather didn't stop High Society FreeRide and SnowmassFreeRide from staging a party marathon Saturday night.  Some of us, played through and rose to the occasion to snare the biggest POWDER DAY in Aspen (so far) this season.

Pow Pow Party

Click for POW POW PARTYIn case you weren't paying attention, Aspen got hit with a HUGE early season storm.  We received over two feet of fresh POWDER SNOW, perfect for skiing. Both Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk opened for their 50th seasons, but as always, the real action was at AJAX. The Dogs, a local ski gang  announced tryouts and prospective members began lining up at the bucket at 6.30am after the 18" Saturday night special storm.  Many of the pledges stayed up all night in order to be first in line.  See Pix @ POW POW PARTY.

When the ropes started to drop on Ajax things got a little crazy.  It was nipple deep on the Back of Bell and Face of Bell.  The Glades and some of the Dumps got their first fat-boy traffic of the year.  Sunday's conditions were awesome--the wider underfoot the better.

The snow did not stop the partying;  click POW POW PARTY
